The superintendent is the chief executive officer of the district and is responsible for the management of the schools, the administration of all board approved policies and the conduct and quality of the district's educational programs and support systems.

It is the superintendent's responsibility to recommend policies to the board and when adopted by the board, implement, interpret and execute them. The position provides leadership and counsel to the school board in the development of the district's mission and goals, provides professional support and advice to the school board on all matters considered by the board.

The superintendent also has direct supervisory responsibilities for the following personnel: executive director of teaching and learning; executive director of finance and business services; executive director of human resource services; director of communication; director of community education; director of special services; director of technology and the executive assistant to the superintendent.
