Pipestone Area Schools will be offering one classroom session of drivers education this summer during the months of March and April. The classroom session will run according to the times and dates listed below. The classroom will be held in-person at the PAS high school auditorium. Your son/daughter must bring a three-ring binder, notebook, writing utensil, and appropriate attitude. If students have a Chromebook or laptop, they may bring it to access driver education materials. The total cost for classroom and behind-the-wheel is $300.00. This can be paid to Carol Rudie in the District/Business office. Checks can be made out to PAS Drivers Education. This will be the only session of classroom Driver Education for the summer of 2023! Parents remind your son/daughter that they will not pass this course unless they attend ALL sessions. Falling asleep, causing disruptions or missing class will cause failure and force your child to wait until the summer of 2024 to retake this course. The State of Minnesota has a graduated driving license system. The first step for your child is to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. At the age of fifteen (15), they may take the State’s written test. After passing they may practice drive with a licensed adult of at least 21 years of age. Students should practice drive 25+ hours before contacting Mr. Zollner for behind-the-wheel instruction. A new laws also states that parents and students must certify 50 hours of practice driving before taking the driving test with a state examiner. There is one way to reduce the 50 hour total and that is by attending a Parent/Student Night. Families that attend have a reduction of 10 hours off their certified driving. The date for this is Wednesday, March 15 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. This will be held in the high school auditorium. Supervised Driving log (required amount of practice hours) can be recorded on paper or by using the RoadReady app. Driver's Education will be held th following dates from 5:30PM to 8:30pm:
Behind the Wheel Information Scheduling behind the wheel instruction will start Tuesday, April 20. Students must sign-up in the HS office. Testing Site Pipestone testing site for the written (10am-11am) and driving (by appointment only) test will be held every Thursday (starting December 19, 2022) at the Community Room, lower level of the Law Enforcement Center, 416 Hiawatha Ave South. Reserve a time for the knowledge or driving test at DPS.MN.GOV. If you are reserving time for the Farm Permit, call 615-284-1234. Need help with parallel parking? |
