• Practice-Every day  3:15-5:15 The only change to that schedule may be the first couple of weeks here due to lack of space. We will communicate our schedule in practice or through Remind.
  • Practice and meet schedule is on track activity page on the track webpage, the school website or app on your phone.
  • Be sure to have sweats, hats, gloves in your locker. It is always colder than you think it is at the track and at meets.
  • Report directly to track for most practices. Some practice early in the year will be held inside due to weather.
  • Communication
  • You athlete must text or call me if you are gone or went home sick. Please have them communicate if they are going to be gone due to school events or vacations as soon as they know.
  • Remind App-- @43af37   I will communicate changes or important information about meets through this app.
  • Grades & Behavior will be monitored. We will do grade checks every several weeks. If your athlete has a failing grade or missing work they will use practice time to meet with teachers and get work completed. They will NOT be allowed to attend meets until work is finished and they have passing grades.
  • Equipment
  • A good pair of shoes are a must. A shoe with poor support or cushion can lead to injuries which could hinder your season.  Most sports stores are good places to get a good pair of running shoes. Make sure the shoe has good support and cushion. If you still are using last year’s shoe you need to get a new pair. Don’t just order a pair on the internet unless you get the same shoe that you have had in the past and have had no problems with.
  • Sprinters and jumpers most commonly use spikes when they sprint or jump. These can be ordered on-line.
  • You will be issued a school issued uniform. You will need a pair of sweats for meets. You may wear your own sweats. I will issue a pair of green track sweats for those that want one.
  • Bras, underwear, compression shorts are considered undergarments and may be any color. Any garment such as a long sleeve shirt or compression tights that extends below the knee must be black and unadorned.
  • Meets
  • Meets usually start at 4:00 with field events. However your son/daughter may not actually run or jump until later in the meet. So communicate with your athlete on what they are planned to run in. Understand sometimes what they are in will change due to illness or injury of other athletes.
  • Nutritious food is recommended before and during meets. Foods that are high in protein and energy are best PB sandwiches, fruit, nuts, cheese are things that they can snack on. We do not stop for food after meets so packing a lunch for later or money for concession stand is recommended,
    • Pack organic peanut butter spread on whole-grain crackers. …

    • Track is a sport that is unique in that success is not dependent on other teammates like basketball or volleyball. Success in track should not be associated with a medal but rather success can be measured in an improved time or distance from one meet to the next.  Every school has lots of good athletes and sometimes there just are more athletes that ran faster or jumped farther that day so your athlete didn’t get a ribbon or a medal. So as parents I ask that you support your athlete by encouraging them to improve from meet to meet. Encourage them to work hard each day because improvement comes from the transformation of cells and muscles to use oxygen and energy better.
